We indicate the route from the town of Santa Maria del Tiétar in Avila and we pedaled towards Rincón and the reservoir of the Garganta de Majalobos.
We continue along the valley, but constantly gaining altitude. We pass over Las Lastras, with the marks emerging, for a while, from the GR-180 Valle del Tiétar. We cross the Monte del Pinar and climb the post that goes through the Santa María Gorge to the Collado de las Vacas. And then we finally arrived at the Port of Casillas at 1,477 meters above sea level. and that is the natural entrance door from the Tiétar Valley to the Iruelas Valley.
From the Port we go along the PR-AV24 path, Store Snow Route. Tell you that it is not all cyclable, so you must push the bike in sections. But we will be walking above 1,400 masl and contemplating the impressive views that the Reserve offers us, with the valleys of the Alber
This well that was in use until the beginning of the 20th century. Snow was introduced into large balls which, when falling into it, were pressed. Every meter was covered with straw, ferns, brooms and bushes, to generate isolation. In the summer the snow was cut into small blocks into serons and transported with horses to nearby towns, always traveling at night.
Then we continue through the meadow towards the Portazo del Pozo and go down the Arroyo de S. Jurdón path. But we have to go up to the port of La Cruz del Tornero, to leave the Iruelas Valley and re-enter the Tiétar Valley.
Immediately we already take the Camino de Casillas that leads us down to the town of Casillas and from there we fall to Santa Maria del Tiétar. Town where we have started the route.
(Route performed in July 2017).
