It is Silvia’s first exit after two months of imprisonment for her retinal detachment operation. That is why we chose this route to make a quiet and smooth walk through a cool area on the banks of a river and shady. And what better way to go to the pine forests of Valsain and go through the valley of the Eresma.
We started from the parking lot at an entrance of the CL-601 road, at km 127. A little below the Boca del Asno Recreational Area.
We start the exit in the direction of Valsaín, surrounding the Perdigueras Peñas and going down to the Old Machine, the first Valsaín Sawmill that is now inside a private estate. We continue crossing the CL-601 road towards the Peñalara Bridge.
At this point we begin the slight rise parallel to the Eresma River. And we discovered that this site is called The Reals Fisheries. Since, the chronicles assure, that Carlos III fished here the summers that happened in the Farm. Now few trouts can be left, but it is highly recommended to walk among the pine trees and ferns.
Above, we will discover the Navalacarreta bridge, a work with three eyes of different sizes, one of them blinded and another located outside the current riverbed. He has served on the old road of Madrid, predecessor of the current road of the port of Navacerrada, designed by Juan de Villanueva in 1778.
Little by little, going up slightly we arrive at Boca del Asno where the noise of its Recreational Area is already heard. At this point we cross the CL-601 road again and on the other side of it we close the route to the starting point.
Nice and quiet route through a place that by 1,700 had chosen Royalty as a summer resort. But most importantly now, Silvia was reunited with the mountain after her retinal detachment operation.
