08-02-2010 Black Forest BTT Stage 1 – Pfozeheim – Bad Wildbad
We start our route to cross the Black Forest by mountain bike from its North face to the South. And we do it with some variants since we wanted a little more mountain, than what can be done by following the official route marked Bike-Crossing Schwarzwald.
And for this we start from the town of Pfozeheim where with a perfect coordination we have arrived 2 vans from Barcelona (8 people in the passenger and another cargo with three people) and the rest, 2 more by plane entering Stuttgart and returning from Basel. A total of 13 people, one of whom, who was injured, proudly made them an assistance van, simplifying the journey at all times.
We started from the Kurhotel 19 Hundert hotel where we stayed this first night. And we immediately entered the wooded parts of the Black Forest. Würm population outlined. Then we continue through forests and small towns passing through Huchenfeld, Unterreichenbach, Langenbrand, Calmbach, until we reach the end of the first stage in Bad Wildbad.
Stage of 41.03 km and 1,147 mda +
08-03-2010 Black Forest BTT Stage 2 – Bad Wildbad – Baiersbronn
We leave from the Valsana am Kurpark hotel in Bad Wildbad, where we have spent the night.
We start by going up towards Wildseemoor Lake. Then we go down to the town of Enzklösterle. Then go up and down Besenfeld.
And we already have the last ascent to go through the Schwarzwald National Park. Impressive… before reaching Baiersbronn, where we will spend the night.
Stage of 66.73 km and 1,836 mda +
08-04-2010 Black Forest BTT Stage 3 – Baiersbronn – Wolfach
We start the day from Baiersbronn, at the Hotel Restaurant Pappel-Baiersbronn where we have spent the night.
This stage we are quite respectful with the official track until km 50 where we shorten more direct to the town of Wolfach where we will finish the stage.
Stage of 59.33 km and 1,812 mda +
08-05-2010 Black Forest BTT Stage 4 – Wolfach – Triberg
We start the route from the Hotel Kreuz, where we have spent the night.
Like the previous stage. We follow the signs for the Bike-Crossing Schwarzwald to Km 38, the town of Hornberg.
From this point. We follow the Gutach river upstream to the town of Triberg where we will spend the night.
Stage of 50.10 km and 1,757 mda +
08-06-2010 Black Forest BTT Stage 5 – Triberg – St. Peter
We leave the Best Western Hotel Schwarzwald Residenz, where we have spent the night in Triberg. One of the most touristy pubs in the Schwarzwald (Black Forest), although not prettier. But that his and the two largest cuckoo clocks in the world and that in this town everything is cuckoo clocks … I think it has something to do with it. Well and also the “supposed” highest waterfalls in Germany (163m drop). Triberger Wasserfälle (Triberg Falls).
We start the route, following the bed of the Griesbach river, towards the town of Simonswald. And from here we follow the marks of the official route to the top of the Kandel of 1,242 meters above sea level.
And from there we go to Sankt Peter, which is the end of stage town.
Stage of 47.25 km and 1,704 mda +
08-07-2010 Black Forest BTT Stage 6 – St. Peter – Todtnauberg ‐ Muggenbrunn
We leave the Hotel-Restaurant Zur Sonne St Peter and we go to the town of Buchenbach making the Winterkrapf summits of 796 masl and Kappeneck of 701 masl.
Then we follow almost everything on the official road to Breitnau and Hinterzarten. And from there to the precise Titisee lake. And from there to the end of stage town, Todtnauberg-Muggenbrunn.
Stage of 70.69 km and 2,607 mda +
08-08-2010 Black Forest BTT Stage 7 – Todtnauberg ‐ Muggenbrunn – Todtmoos
We leave from the Hotel Adler (today closed) where we spend the night.
At this stage we shot it, almost all the time, by the official marking of the Bike-Crossing Schwarzwald. And it will take us to Todtmoos which is our end of stage town.
Stage of 47.72 km and 2,422 mda +
08-09-2010 Black Forest BTT Stage 8 – Todtmoos – Bad Säckingen
And we are already running out. We are coming to our end of the Black Forest. We started this last stage from the Hotel Schwarzwälderhof Todtmoos, where we have stayed. And we do it following the official path, but after 5 km we abandon it to take some trails that bring us closer to the Glaserberg at 1,080 masl and later the Sonnenmatt Kopf at 989 masl. Where on his descent we find him and that leads us to the town of Engelsschwand.
Later the official path leads us to the Hornbergbecken pond. And from there to Wehr, later to Lake Bergsee, where a more urban environment is already breathed because it is next to the town of Bad Säckingen where the route ends.
Already at the end of stage hotel, Aqualon Hotel Schweizerblick, we celebrate by shaking a few bottles of cava and loading the bikes to the van. Where we had also left the first van waiting for this moment to return to Barcelona.
Stage of 49.76 km and 1,360 mda +
And to say goodbye. I can only thank my colleagues for letting me go … even if it was from a support van. Beautiful landscapes in a beautiful country. Thank you all for everything!
