We start the route from the small town of the Sierra Norte de Madrid. Atazar. And we do it by rolling along its GR-300 path, the Genaro path, which by track … and to warm up … leads us to the antennas de Matachines.
There, and without reaching the antennas. We take the small M-130 road for 1 kilometer and turn left onto the Camino de Los Lonchares, which continues up the Riato River Valley. And just before passing the trail above it, where there is a fire tank. We can see a beautiful specimen of a vulture perched on the Peña Aljibe. For sure. All a gift from Nature … and that has served us to rest since we have the last three kilometers, and harder on the Camino de Los Lonchares until we reach the top of La Tiesa at 1675 masl. Top of the day and beautiful place where you can contemplate the views of the valleys at the gates of the Sierra del Rincón.
We continue along the M-130 road for a kilometer downhill until we turn off to the right of the La Morra track. That will take us around the Alto del Perrejón to the Collado de Las Palomas (1602 masl.) Where you can see several marked hunting stalls.
From this point we start a deceptive descent that has some long steep slopes, which, although soft, become heavy due to the fatigue and heat of the day. We pass through the Collado Llano, El Portillo and the Garganta del Portillo until we reach the Collado de Pinilla where the long descent down the track begins following the marks of the GR 88 – Senderos del Jarama, as it passes through the Sierra Norte, up to the col from Torrejón where we leave it to continue along the track that leads to Atazar … but not to go downhill. What better way to finish than with a short but last climb on arrival at the town of Atazar.
