We start our Extremadura route from Zafra. We go down the Casa del Ladrillero to cross the West Zafra Ring Road, EX-321 and the Rivera de Zafra. Then we are followed by a strong cement climb to the Sierra del Castellar.
At that point, the car park for those who come to the mountains to climb, we pass the gate that leads us into the trails or paths trodden by animals to the great masses of stone, a quartzite cliff that forms the Sierra del Castellar.
We go through it all, from its beginning on the SE face to its end NW. The passage between the rocks on its east face, shared by climbers and its fun tunnels, take us, in the middle of the rocky massif, to the remains of the Andalusian castle that defended the area and that was conquered for the Crown of Castile by Fernando III in 1241. Through it we pass to the West face, but we visit its geodesic point of the Sierra del Castellar 663 meters above sea level.
We continue towards the Albuera del Castellar Reservoir, or also known as the Zafra Reservoir Dam, passing through the long rocky massif and stopping at each of its viewpoints where the city of Zafra can be seen at the foot.
On the way down, we pass by the Cortijo del Castellar. Beautiful construction on the rocks at the end of the mountain range. Finally we reach the waters of the reservoir, which we cover a short distance to exit through one of the valleys that the water provides and go up and then down to the Buen Suceso area, passing the Rivera de Zafra again, we go to the Zafra WWTP and From there we went up to Zafra to end the route at Bar El Taxi.
