We started from the town of Saliencia prepared to climb the El Valle de Saliencia, one of the most beautiful of the Cantabrian Cornice. And it is located in the South West part of the Somiedo Natural Park bordering León.
We start the route on the SD-2 road, but then we take the trialera uphill that takes you to the Foz del Arroxu.
The climb is tended and strong. All the unevenness of the route is practically gained here. On the trail we enter the Foz de los Arroxos. ¡Amazing! A little aerial, but they are some committed step.
Upstairs we arrive at the first teito, cabins used by the Vaqueiros de Alzada, with its characteristic roof of broom branches. Right at this point we take the GR-101 Camino Real of Puerto de la Mesa, accompanied in this section with the PR-AS-104 Route through the Brañas de Teverga. Walking with these two paths we cross the perimeter between the Natural Parks of Somiedo and enter for a bit to the Natural Park of Las Ubiñas – La Mesa. Passing the Colláu del Muru, the top of the Cumales and La Magdalena, where we leave the GR101 and PR-AS-104 trails to go down to Saliencia on the PR-AS-12 Route of the Brañas de Saliencia.
The descent is cemented but precious to be able to visit the Brañas de la Mortera de Saliencia. Braña is a population space, rich in pastures and water, inhabited by cowgirls during summer grazing.
And finally we come to the town of Saliencia where we don’t miss a cider!
