We begin our journey from the Service Area, Venta el Pueto 2, located at the Alto de la Cadena on the A30. We start our route along the PR-MU 23.1 Trail, although we quickly deviate from it to head towards the facilities of Aguas de Murcia. From this point, we immediately immerse ourselves in the fascinating Murcian Badlands.
These geographical areas are characterized by their eroded and desert-like topography, with soft soils and sparse vegetation adapted to specific climatic conditions. The landscape unfolding before us evokes the image of a lunar stage, with deep canyons, sharp ridges, and worn sediment deposits.
Venturing into this unique environment, it is important to note that we will encounter a fenced-off area that must be respected. This area encompasses the galleries we will explore later on.
We enjoy the whimsical beauty of this landscape with caution, even overcoming the inconvenience of the soles of our shoes breaking. I highly recommend always carrying zip ties in your backpack to handle any unexpected situations. Here is an example of the importance of being prepared for unforeseen circumstances.
