We start the route in San Lorenzo del Escorial. On Paseo Carlos III that would take us to El Escorial Monastery. Right at the gateway to the slopes of the Sierra.
We went up looking for the Horizontal and that we immediately left to go up the famous Zetas de Abanto. That they are a set of 16 short zetas and that as you ascend, they become shorter. Well known to Bikers in the area.
Once up we go to the Los Llanillos Recreation Area where … to warm up the day we let ourselves be guided by the green and white marks of the Local Path that will climb us to Cerro de la Cabeza at 1,679 masl.
The exit of the hill is simple by the Camino de la Cancha towards the Port of Malagón at 1,536 meters above sea level. And from there we take the La Lapida path, which we will later abandon, to visit the Cruz de Rubens and later, already taking the GR-10, the Cruz de Abantos at the Pico de Abantos at 1,753 meters above San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
From there we go to La Solana de En medio, where the fire surveillance booth is and after going down, we will connect with the GR-10 – Camino de Abantos. That it will take us down to the Peguerinos al Escorial road and that once crossed, we will return to the GR-10 again.
We will deviate along the Camino del Silencio / Los Vascos, passing near the Romeral Reservoir and crossing the La Horizontal Restaurant.
And to close the route, we will walk along the Camino de La Horizontal until we contact the first climb that we made early in the morning where we had our cars parked.
