La Peñota – Mostajo Hill

We start the route in Los Molinos, a small-town bordering Cercedilla in Madrid. And more specifically in the urbanization closest to the access of La Peñota.

We take the pass under the train track and immediately turn right. By track we go up until it connects us with the Camino de Los Campamentos. In the Old Camp of Las Barceas, where there is an old installation of a fire station, we take the PR-M30 and then we continue climbing the path marked by the red points in the pines and that lead us to the Collado del Rey from where we have a first good views of the Southwest part of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

We continue the steep ascent along the path of Pradera de Navalcampillo and that takes us to Peñota Hill from 1944 masl. from where you have impressive views at its four cardinal points while enjoying being on top of these immense granite stone blocks worn by the erosion of the years.

We go down the GR-10 and crossing the border line between the Communities of Madrid and Castilla y León, until we reach the top of Cerro del Mostajo at 1718 meters above sea level. And from this point we start a descent … easy but a little lost among the vegetation until we reach the track of the Camino de los Lomitos and marked as PRM-30. This same track when passing through the stream of La Peñota, where there is a source, is called Camino de la Solana … and at the hours we passed here … I give faith of its name. And that returns us to the starting point.
