We start this route from the car park in the commercial area of La Alberca de Murcia. We went up Montevida towards the La Alberca Cemetery and up the paths of the Rambla del Valle until we reached the Alberque Juvenil de Valle. There we continue along the Senda de Las Columnas to Los Carrillares where we take the Senda Rock Garcen that takes us to cross the A-30 motorway from Cartagena to Murcia.
Then we have a steep climb until we reach the impressive millstone, the Cabezo del Puerto, 532 meters above sea level, where we find the ruins of the Castillo de la Asomada. An Arab fortress from the 12th century, under the government of Muhammad ibn Mardanis, the period of maximum splendor of the Kingdom of the Taifas of Murcia. It was built, although it was never finished, as a strategic building for the control of space and communications between the coast and the interior.
We contemplate the entire Murcia basin and its Mediterranean slope and then we descend strongly towards the Portazgo Castle. The remains of this castle also date from the 12th century, but this place was used by various cultures such as the Argaric, Roman or Arab. Today, the remains are divided into two areas and are crossed by the Murcia-Cartagena Highway. The lower area to which we arrived first was intended for stables and cattle, being able to find cisterns and then we passed under the A-30 motorway to climb to the upper part of the castle. There are remains of its character as a fortress, although the remains of the modifications to the machine gun nest from the Civil War are more visible.
We continue the route down the slopes of the Torre de la Isabel. Then we continue along trails crossing the Rambla de La Paciencia in the Lost Valley until we return to our starting point.
