To make this beautiful route of the Fisgas de Emerlo through the Natural Park do Alvão we leave from the town of Emerlo that gives it its name. I more specifically about his parish church.
Then we reach the trail marked PR3 MDB Fisgas de Emerlo. Its first section is down until you pass the Ribeira de Fervença river, then the ascent begins. Which takes us to the first viewpoint of the Fisgas do Emerlo Waterfalls formed by the 200 m fall of the Olo river, which makes it the largest in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe.
Later we find another viewpoint closer to the waterfall, but I think from the first it is where its great dimension is seen.
We continue ascending until we touch the Olo river when it runs before forming the waterfall. And we arrive at the town of Varzigueto, where we change the slope of the Olo river by its highway bridge.
We begin the return on the right side of the river enjoying the calm among some bathers and return to a third viewpoint of the Fisgas do Emerlo. The most popular since it can be reached by car.
We follow the indications of the PR3 MDB that returns us to Emerlo before passing through the Olo river bridge.
And we could close it with an amazing meal in the small restaurant, which is also accommodation, Sabores do Alvão. Almost that just for your meal it is worth the walk.
