We start this route in the town of Casla, northeast of Segovia. We started it rolling towards the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama following Circuit 1 Ruta del Río San Juan.
We pedal through the Cordel de Peñas Varios until we reach them, where we turn towards the Peñas de Miguela and the Peñas del Perdón until we reach the Cañada Real Soriana Occidental where we roll finding some surprises! A beautiful wood carving of a wolf. Perfectly varnished and placed under the shelter of a tree and later another. An ocellated lizard, the `saurio´ from Madrid on top of a stone. Incredible! Bravo to the author!
We continue to the intersection with Arroyo del Cuarto Perdido and go down to Prádena along the track parallel to the stream.
In Prádena we take a walk to visit the Monument of “la Muñeca” and take the small path of the Río San Juan. And leave by track towards Matandrino, one of the abandoned towns of Segovia.
We continue on and go down the Camino de las Encinilla to the town of Castroserna de Arriba. Where we return to the path of the San Juan River arriving at Castroserna de Abajo where we continue along the path and entering the canyons of Rio San Juan until we reach the Hermitage of the Virgen de los Remedios where we can see the cavities in the walls of the karst massif of Prádena. Place where griffon vultures nest from December to June.
We make our way along the path to Castroserna de Abajo and there we turn uphill towards Santa Maria del Cerro and then get onto the path of the Caslilla River. Until returning to Casla.
And since we are in the area we take the opportunity to eat at the Bar La Portada de Prádena. 100% recommended and very good at recommending wines.
