Vilán Lighthouse – English Cemetery

We begin the route at the impressive Vilán Cape Lighthouse, in the heart of Costa da Morte, and head toward the Vilán Wind Farm. We walk east along the Pedrosa forest track, which borders the Natural Site of National Interest of Cape Vilán, passing by peaceful beaches until we reach the iconic English Cemetery.

This spot, located on Cape Tosto, on the spit known as Punta Boi, witnessed three tragic shipwrecks at the end of the 19th century that forever marked the name of Costa da Morte: the Iris Hull (1883), the Serpent (1890), and the Trinacria (1893).

After visiting this place full of history, we continue the route and turn later along the path to Terreo do Pao, descending again toward the Pedrosa forest track. On the return leg, we take a detour onto the trail leading to Praia da Pedrosa, where we enjoy the wild beauty of its beaches.

A beautiful and history-filled route through Costa da Morte.
