We start another route through the Sierra de Gata. Specifically from Descargarmaría, in the Valley of the Árrago River, in the Tajo hydrographic basin. Although, together with Robledillo de Gata, Downloadmaría is one of the only two municipalities in Extremadura that have part of their territory in the Duero hydrographic basin.
Hydrographic anecdotes apart. We start crossing the town towards the North following the markings of the GR 10 E02 Robledillo de Gata – Descargarmaría. We leave the town and the asphalt at the height of the Barrero houses and enter the mountain, always following the river upstream and leaving it to the right.
We arrive at Robledillo de Gata through the Ermita del Humilladero. We cross the town uphill and with enough heat to go out on the road towards Bolo, where we begin to climb the zetas that shorten the CC-72 road until the next curve and we continue zeteando for a strong climb. Or so it seems to us at least because of the strong heat it makes us. Finally we arrive at Cruz del Puerto. We have completed another stage of the GR 10 E01 Limit Hurdes – Robledillo de Gata and we have reached the Hurdes gate.
For 1 kilometer we continue along the path of the border line between Las Hurdes and Sierra de Gata to turn right and start the descent along the PR-CC 186 El Chorrito, which we follow completely, except for a slightly crazy cut that we make by the firewall, which I insist, can be avoided. But that quickly brings us to Download Maria, our starting point. But first, it gives us a chance to visit its Natural Pool where we cool off before eating at the Molino de las Ánimas.
