Gorafe Desert

We stated by bike from the same caves where we stayed, Cave HouseThe Torriblanco. A luxury in a cave!

After contemplating the views of and the Gor River valley from the terrace of the Llanos del Cocón, we started rolling towards the Casas del Cocón and continue along the Camino del Bácor to the photographed Casa del Desierto. Raised as proof of glazing by the Guardian Glass company, and known for having hosted celebrities and being the setting for the fifth season of ‘Black Mirror’.

We reach the tip of the Majada de Macimbrana to enjoy in all its splendor the overwhelming landscape characterized by the capricious forms that erosion has built: reliefs in ‘badlands’, also called ‘bad lands’ due to the aridity and the encompassed character they present.

We make our way down a track that runs along the Loma de los Pinos parallel to the Rambla del Pollo. We reach the top of the Loma de los Pinos of 818 meters above sea level, from where we see the vastness of the Gorafe Desert and its majestic warm colors. In the background you can see the Negratín Reservoir and Los Coloraos Desert, which owes its name to the predominant color in the geological formations of its clay lands.

We continued the route down carefully as the dew had moistened the first layer of clay and made it difficult to roll without any grip. And we arrive at the cut of the Rambla de los Anchurones under the Loma de las Yeguas where these beautiful walls are already seen of the Los Coloraos Desert. Then we continue along the boulevard until we take the trail of the Camino de los Campos Mones. We advance and pass through the Caves of the Plateau and the Corominas Cave. We continue through the Cuevas y Majada de las Culebras, the Cruz del Apolo and the Cañada de la Veniana, going down to the Cortijo de la Vega at the end where we reach the town of Gorafe along the road. But we still have the climb!

Up the road we reach the Megalithic Park of Gorafe. Now we are at the final height. On the terrace of the Gor River valley. We only have to roll to the Llanos del Concón and our cave house.

And what better way to close the day than with a local wine before sunset and preparing a barbecue!
